19.1. The program frame with argumentation of the need to organise
The actual text we are going to submit
- STARTS HERE
We have an unsustainable system.
- the environment is endangered
- unequal distribution of productive capacity
- social problems
- The grand challenges humanity faces today - whether disease, poverty, environmental or governmental issues - are all interrelated. They can not be seen as isolated issues and cannot truly be resolved when tackled individually. Only through a common and well coordinated effort we can combine our abilities to address the true causes rather than the symptoms of these challenges - and achieve the state of a sustainable society.
- Technology is the single most important factor in this equation. Most if not all of the amenities and achievements of human civilisation where implemented through the wise and responsible use of technology. The proper use of current and future technologies is the key to unleash humanity's potential.
- The interest therefore lies in the profound analysis of the current possibilities for advancing human civilisation and the development of a general strategy which aims to implement improvements in various areas through the application of the adequate technology.
- The two most important areas are the availability and access to energy as well as the ability to effectively participate in democratic decision making and active citizenships. The highly fluctuating prices of oil as well as the environmental implications of its extraction make it evident that a change to renewable and sustainable sources of energy is required. It is also doubtful that the dependency on a few nations to supply the world's energy is beneficial to the human civilisation. Modern energy generation technologies such as wind power or geothermal energy can help to increase the availability of energy and therefore increase both the level as well as the security of living standards. Since any process requires energy, it is the most basic requirement to address the issues of poverty and disease.
- Innovative methods must be implemented to address the modern issues of lacking citizen participation and to increase their involvement in the democratic decision making process. Structures should be provided which allow all citizens to claim their stake in an active civil society in order to contribute to a free and democratic European society.
- ENDS HERE
Today’s socioeconomic system has a fundamental unsustainable nature. This has to do with physical limitations of Earth. NET then considers the question: if we can not sustain today’s system, then what type of socioeconomic system can we sustain? NET proposes an alternative system for a hi-tech sustainable socioeconomic system which we call a "technate".
Part one
- exploring of today's system
- unequal distribution
- Poverty - roots and causes within today's socioeconomic system
- Social exclusion
- results in unequakl dis and exusion as fundenetal property
Part two
- equale share fro all
- characteristics of a sustainable soc
- alternative systems
19.2. Expected response from the scientific and professional public
- long time noted that we have an unsustainabe system
- lack of fundamental research
- start a debate
- looking into the alternatives (it has been noted for a long time in the sci community that out system is unsustainable but lack of discussion on alternatives. We hope this start a discussion of alternatives).
- response - looking into the alternatives
- European cooperation
- Europe is on a competitive forefront with the rest of the world regarding sustainability
- future development
- environment
- alternative energy
- renewable energy
- strengthening
- oil independent
- university from southern Europe
- carbon (CO2) reduction
- participative democracy
- active citizenship
- economy
